Curious about us, the colt looks directly at us. No fear, just focused interest. Contrasts dominate: light brown against dark brown; brown against green; white against light brown; blue sky with clouds. I also wanted to compare the colt's innocence with the mare's seasoned indifference to humans, and to bring out the textures of the mother's mane and the grass.
