Being a Los Angeles native, I have a strong affinity with the California poppy. Their beautiful oranges, greens and yellows made an impression on me even as a child. But then I moved to Denver and was introduced to another kind of poppy, variously called Oriental Poppy, Red Poppy, Corn Poppy, and Field Poppy. Every Spring these spectacular, large, 2" to 3" in diameter blossoms would cause my yard explode with color. They look like they are made of paper and have 3 foot stems. Alas, after a few weeks, they are gone. But what a show they put on! I wanted to capture some of this Spring joy and uplifting colors in this gallery. Enjoy.
